AROMA NATURAL BLOG - Arthritis and Aromatherapy/Essential Oils

 Use Aroma Natural Massage Oils

Arthritis is a term used to describe several diseases of the joints,  the three most common of which are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and gout, and is associated with an imbalanced body chemistry.

Toxins build up in the body and while some peoples bodies easily get rid of these others do not leading to uric acid being deposited as crystals between the joint spaces. In some cases a change of diet can stop arthritis in its tracks and learning to cut out certain troublesome food over a period of about six weeks can help you to discover the culprit. Also, stress and anxiety reduces our ability to deal with toxic waste so using essential oils for this can also help relieve any arthritis symptons.

Usually its the weight bearing joints that are affected, especially those that have been heavily used like hips, knees and ankles. The crystals build up in the joint spaces causing inflammation, pain, stiffness, loss of mobility and eventually damage to the surface. This can be extremely painful and over a period of time permanent damage is visable i.e swollen deformed joints on places like knuckle, finger and toe joints.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Treatment can depend on the severity of the condition and can be done in stages. Essential oils can be used to massage joints gently or they can be added to a bath along with two handfuls of Epsom Salts.

Stage One

Detoxifying essential oils like Lemon and Fennel can be used in your bath or added to a base oil like Sweet Almond oil and used to massage your whole body.

Stage Two

Chamomile, Lavender, Peppermint and Eucalyptus oil can be used in your bath or added to a base oil like Sweet Almond oil for a complete body massage. Gently massaging the affected area can certainly help relieve pain and stiffness of a joint.

Stage Three

Rosemary, Lavender, Frankincense, Ginger and Eucalyptus oil can be used in your bath or added to a base oil like Sweet Almond oil for a coimplete body massage. This combination of oils is fantastic when used to massage any painful affecrted area. The Rosemary helps clear your mind and relieve pain, the Lavender helps reduce your body of any tension and toxins the Ginger and Eucalyptus can help warm the joint and relieve pain.

Aroma Natural does a wonderful, inexpensive massage oil that can be used over a period of time and helps relieve the pain and inflammation that Arthritis causes. The oil can be used for a whole body massage or used in the area of the swollen painful joint. Use in conjuction with a relaxing bath oil and feel the benefits almost immediately.

Osteoarthritis

This is characterised by the degeneration of the smooth, gliding surfaces of the joints and occurs often in middle-age or elderly people, due to 'wear and tear'. It can also be due to diet and can now affect younger people and even children because of obesity and lack of excersise. Inflammation of the joints is not usually present.

Essential oils that can help are the detoxicating oils, Lemon and Fennel which can be added to a bath along with a couple of handfuls of Epsom Salts.

By adding the essential oils, Rosemary, Lavender and Chamomile to a base oil such as Sweet Almond oil to create a massage oil to help relieve pain and then massaging the affected area or even adding these particular oils to the bath can be very rewarding. Ginger can also be added to warm the area and create better mobility.

Gout

This is often seen as a joke but can be extremely painful and serious and can become unbearable. Usually, the big toe joints and finger joints are affected.

All the other arthritis oils can be used for gout and in the same way.

Additional oils such as Basil, Pine and Thyme can also be a great help
